Migration to the future

Our traditions go back to the days when first IBM mainframes came to life.
Migration of legacy systems to advanced computer platforms became a key area of focus for the company. For many of our clients, such migration serves as a transformation vehicle to address new opportunities.

Shop Floor Data Collection

Industry

Tire production

Customer

Our customer is a world leader in tire production

Project Overview

The Comapps Shop Floor Data Collection is designed to replace the existing Comapps legacy application of our customer on the PC–MVS platform with a new .Net solution. The new solution called the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) should reside on a new hardware platform.

The MES solution decouples the manufacturing environment of our customer from its SAP business environment while providing the exchange of information flows between business and plant floor levels.

The application provides accurate and timely manufacturing information through shop floor data capture from computer–controlled work centers and operators.

It also gives real time status and efficiency information to the management team. Production data are collected in a plant data warehouse. Using these data, continuous plant improvements can be made.

Project Execution

IBA Group implemented the project in close cooperation with the customer. IBA responsibilities included requirement analysis; application design; application development; unit, functional and system testing; quality assurance, and support.

The project implementation comprises the following four stages:

  • Developing a beta version of the application
  • Deploying the beta version to the first tire plant
  • Proceeding with application development on the basis of customer feedbacks
  • Customizing and deploying the application to other plants (about 18 plants in Europe).

The first three stages were finished on time with an excellent reference from the customer. The fourth stage is still underway.

Technologies:

  • Microsoft .Net framework 2.0
  • Prospero framework produced by Synthesis
  • NUnit
  • Developer Express Components

Tools:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
  • Oracle 10g Database
  • TOAD (Tools for Oracle Administration and Development)
  • Bugzilla

Project Results

The application has been developed in line with the schedule. IBA Group has received excellent references from the customer. After the completion of the third project stage, the customer's project manager has sent us the following feedback: “IBA team worked extremely hard and completed a great deal of development and feature fixes for us. Team's commitment to the project ensured that it was very successful".
