Our customer is a global IT service provider, one of the most recognized companies in the IT community.

Project Overview

Extended Common Services for MVS (ECSMVS) is a set of tools that provide aid for internal business applications of our customer. ECSMVS is a layer between the operating system and the application providing functions in the following areas: application development, release and installation control, and production. These functions include standardized code for applications, interface prototyping, data administration, security, packaging and distribution support, and control and processing of application data.

The project started in May 1998, when the customer assigned IBA to provide ECSMVS support.

The ECSMVS components are:

  • Automated Build and Release (ABR)
  • Batch Transaction Monitor (BTM)
  • Common Security Package (COMSEC)
  • Common Table Management System (CTMS)
  • Data Dictionary Facilities (DDF)
  • Screen/Dialogue/Transaction/Ma nagement (SDTM)
  • Standard System Interface (SSI)
  • Support Tools for Installation Control — SMP/E (STIC1)
  • Support Tools for Installation Control — JCL and utilities (STIC2)
  • Transaction Interface Environment for IMS (TIE/IMS)
  • Interface Error Handler (IEH)
  • Field Level Security System (FLS)
  • ECSMVS Workbench (EWB)

Project Execution

The IBA activities include:

  • Maintenance of the ECSMVS code to comply with the requirements of new versions of z/OS components, such as Language Environment, Enterprise PL/I compiler, and DB2
  • Development of new releases and PTFs (fixes) of ECSMVS
  • Packaging and delivery of new versions of ECSMVS products to end users via the intranet web server of our client
  • Installation and maintenance of ECSMVS components on customers' sites
  • Responding to customer questions and supporting problem resolution
  • Security administration support for ECSMVS.

Project Results

At present, the code of ECSMVS tools is supported solely by the IBA team. IBA specialists provide worldwide support for ECSMVS that is used in EMEA, Americas, Australia, and South Africa.
