Project Overview
The goal of the project is to support, enhance, and test Removable Media Manager (RMM). The product is designed to manage open systems media in a distributed environment on the mainframe Manager. The solution is a z/OS feature. The customer may store and manage removable media in several types of media libraries. For example, in addition to an old–type tape library looking like a room with tapes, shelves, and drives, the customer might have several automated, virtual, and manual tape libraries. In addition, the customer may have both on–site libraries and off–site storage locations, also known as vaults or stores. With RMM, the customer can manage its removable media as one enterprise–wide library across systems and sysplexes. RMM manages tape volumes and data sets on those volumes. RMM also manages the shelves where volumes reside in all locations except in automated tape libraries. RMM manages all tape media, such as cartridge system tapes and 3420 reels, as well as other removable media assigned to it. For example, RMM can record the shelf locations for optical disks and track their vital record status. It does not manage objects on optical disks. More than 3,000 companies worldwide use RMM to manage their tapes.

Project Results
Running since June 1994, “RMM Support, Development, and Testing” is one of the longest IBA projects. In 1999 and 2008, the project team was expanded and currently it comprises developers from IBA Minsk and IBA CZ. The customer has appointed the IBA team leader as its Service Team Leader. At present, IBA Group is completely in charge of Level 3 support.
According to the RMM Project Manager, the customer is very satisfied with the RMM service results. He also added: “Thanks to your team for their contribution to this achievement.”
