JavaBeans Around The World

December 1996 — December 2000

The history of the IBA Java team began in December 1996 when a contract between IBA and IBM was signed to implement a joint project entitled “JavaBeans Around The World”. The project was designed to create JavaBeans components for visual programming tools, such as Visual Age for Java, Visual Cafe, JBuilder, and Sun WorkShop. IBA implemented the project in cooperation with developers from India, China, and Latvia. IBM Emerging Market Software headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, exercised the overall supervision of the project.

Newly developed components were uploaded to the AlphaWorks server (http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com) for free access. The aggregate number of JavaBeans components created by IBA was 500. In 1999, the sales of component libraries through the virtual shop http://www.flashline.com were launched. In 1998 within the project JBAW, a convertor of projects created in Visual Cafe or JBuilder on Visual Age for Java was implemented.

The components developed by IBA and IBM (alphaWorks Suite of Components) received an award of the Java World magazine Editors' Choice Java World 1998.

In addition to creating JavaBeans components, IBA developers participated as subcontractors in a number of large projects that IBM executed for corporate clients in the United States.
