IT Giant in Belarus

Karim Pedersen, a journalist of Com'On, the second largest IT edition in Denmark, visited Belarus and IBA Minsk in early June. Based on his impressions, a series of articles about the Belarusian IT industry, higher education in Belarus, and cooperation between Belarus and Denmark came out. An article entitled “IT–gigant in Hviderusland” (IT Giant in Belarus) published in Com'On # 21 of June 8, 2006 was devoted to IBA.

The article says that IBA, one of the largest IT providers in Eastern Europe, has clients in almost each part of the globe, including Denmark. Valentin Kazan, IBA Vice President, and Kirill Degtiarenko, IBA Management and Marketing Director, are quoted speaking about IBA specializations in the international IT market, its priority areas, as well as problems and benefits of outsourcing.

Special emphasis is given to mainframes that represent a key area of focus for IBA. In Denmark and other Western countries, companies are challenged by the lack of skilled resources in this area, whereas mainframes are widely used in the financial and transport sectors that have high reliability and performance requirements.

In addition, the article gives an overview of IBA payment and information systems, including the SMS Banking system that enables banking transactions via mobile phones. It says that IBA is striving to become the world's fourth largest supplier of ATMs and information terminals (infokiosks) to hotels, airports, and other organizations.
