IBA Introduces Contactless Payment in Minsk Ground Transport

On May 23, IBA Group launched a contactless payment service in ground transport. At the moment, the service is running in test mode and is available at Route 6 trams only. Based on the near-field communication (NFC) technology, the service and is a part of the Automated Fare Collection System (AFC). The AFC validators accept VISA, Mastercard, and BELCART issued by any bank. The project is a result of cooperation between IBA Group, BPS-Sberbank, and MinskTrans.

In 2018, IBA Group implemented contactless payment at all gates of all Minsk metro stations. The service is in high demand with passengers due to its simplicity. Since the introduction of the service, more than 10 million fares have been paid by the holders of cards issued by 189 banks from 63 countries of the world, including 13 banks of Belarus.

Any individual who has at least once traveled in Minsk public transport can register on the payBYcard website. On the paybycard.by website in the Passenger Account section, Minsk commuters can view their travel history and card balance, receive an electronic receipt.

The service is introduced as a part of the IBA Fare Collection System (AFC). The AFC System covers 3,000 buses, trolleybuses, and trams, as well as two Metro lines, six trains of the city lines of Belarusian Railway, and 500 suburban buses. To date, IBA Group implemented the AFC System in Minsk and Gomel (Belarus), Kaliningrad (Russia), and Dushanbe (Tajikistan).

On May 22, IBA Group took part in the first international case conference IoT Focus Minsk 2019.  The IoT Belarus Community conducted the event for developers, marketers, and IOT customers. The conference organizers invited IBA group to speak on the development and outcomes of the automated fare collection system (IBA AFC) that has been operating in Minsk for 5 years.
