IBA’s AFC System Expands to All Stations in Minsk Metro
On June 12, contactless payment by bankcards was launched at all stations of the Minsk Metro. IBA Group introduced the near-field communication (NFC) technology as a part of the Automated Fare Collection System (AFC). At the moment, the service is running in test mode.
Minsk citizens and visitors of the capital can now pay for a single journey in the Metro using their Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPass bankcards or other NFC devices connected to the cards. The transaction takes 0.5 seconds. Previously, contactless payment was only available at three stations — Plošča Lienina, Kamiennaja Horka and Plošča Jakuba Kolasa. As of June 1, 2018, more than 50,000 passengers used the NFC technology to pay for their journeys.
Recently, Belarus has been introducing various ways of paying for goods and services. In transport, there is a positive dynamics both in terms of improving processes and developing automation facilities. In 2014, IBA Group launched its AFC System for public transportation in Minsk. This year, the company updated payBYcard, a service of mobile acquiring, adding the new functionality of paying for a single journey in the Metro.
Any passenger of the Minsk Metro can register on the payBYcard website. The service allows for getting information about completed journeys paid by contactless bankcards or other NFC devices, printing a receipt, or removing a card from the service’s stop-list, in case there is an outstanding payment.
