IBA Group’s Key Highlights from Germany’s Premier IT Conferences in Fall 2024

In November 2024, several large-scale IT conferences took place in Germany, gathering experts from various industries, including IT, banking, insurance, automotive, and chemical. Among the largest conferences that IBA Group attended were the 19th Shared Services & Outsourcing Week 2024 and IT für Versicherungen.

Shared Services & Outsourcing Week 2024 (SSOW 2024), a prominent conference on business process management and outsourcing, convened in Berlin. Over 250 executives and industry experts from diverse sectors attended the event. Automotive corporations such as Continental AG and Volkswagen, chemical companies like BASF and Bayer, financial organizations including AXA and Allianz, tech giants like Siemens and Deutsche Telekom, and pharmaceutical leaders such as Sanofi and Lilly Deutschland participated. Leaders from Adidas, Bosch, Deutsche Telekom, Siemens, Lufthansa, and other major international companies delivered keynote presentations.

Transformation of Global Business Services into Global Capabilities Centers was one of the primary topics at SSOW Berlin 2024. A company’s ability to manage data effectively, use advanced analytical tools, and adopt innovative technologies plays a central role in creating additional value for business.

Participants discussed tools and approaches that improve data management. These ranged from creating modern data lakes and data warehouses for comprehensive analytics to implementing tools for working with big data. The discussion focused on cloud solutions and their role in digital business transformation, along with the use of BI systems and Data Mining technologies to support more accurate business decisions.

Elena Dolgy, Head of Partner Management, and Andrei Barysionak, Global Delivery Director of Data Management Services, represented IBA Group at the event.

The three-day program included a day of workshops and two main days with streams of presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. The conference served as an important platform for exchanging experiences and networking among shared services professionals in the region.

TECH SESSION FOR BUSINESS

A week later, from November 26 to November 27, the IT für Versicherungen congress took place in Leipzig. The event attracted 500 attendees, 85 speakers, and 50 booths of companies representing the insurance industry. This two-day gathering brought together IT leaders from insurance companies and technology providers. The program featured presentations by leading experts in the insurance market, such as the CIO of Zurich Group Deutschland.

Dolgy, and Yury Chackatouski, Global Delivery Director of Custom Enterprise Services, participated on behalf of IBA Group.

The main topics of the conference were digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and legacy system modernization.

The conference highlighted the insurance industry’s digital transformation journey, which is focused on combining continuity with innovation. Key priorities include strengthening customer-centricity through seamless digital experiences, automating core processes like claims and underwriting, using data analytics to gain insights and personalize offerings, modernizing legacy systems, and collaborating with InsurTech startups to stay agile.

Conference participants noted that artificial intelligence serves as a transformative factor for the insurance industry, particularly in claims management and customer service. However, concerns about security and ethical AI usage hinder its widespread adoption.

Companies are advised to focus on solving specific business problems, such as fraud detection or risk assessment, rather than simply following technological trends. Special attention was also paid to autonomous agents capable of making independent decisions, although their adoption is hampered by challenges related to data reliability and inter-system communication.

Insurance companies also face the need to modernize long-established IT systems. The success of such projects depends on the application of sustainable approaches balanced in terms of cost, innovation, and employee readiness.

Modernizing legacy systems is not just an IT initiative, but a holistic transformation that affects organizational culture, business processes, and employee roles. The key principles in this process are sustainability, gradual change, and modular upgrades. Companies are integrating legacy systems with modern cloud platforms, AI-powered automation tools, and microservices to combine the reliability of existing solutions with new capabilities.

In addition, experts shared experiences in IT architecture management, underwriting automation and claim settlement, big data management and business analytics, digitization, IT security implementation, and other innovations.

Recent conferences in Berlin and Leipzig show that large companies are moving from cost-cutting strategies to building Global Capabilities Centers. As a result, businesses require advanced IT solutions that use AI, process automation, and effective data management to boost operational efficiency. IBA Group helps develop and implement digital solutions that improve productivity, reduce costs, and facilitate customer interaction.
